The announcement from the F1 Commission meeting on Monday this week has done little to satisfy fans around the world. Of course there are due processes and any decisions by the commission need to be ratified by the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council, and the two are only due to meet over the weekend of the opening Grand Prix of the season.
But these are extraordinary times for the FIA and the lack of communication has been pretty extraordinary as well. The reaction following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is something I have never experienced before, even after 20 years in the motorsport business. All winter long, people at the supermarket or the pub have wanted to know my opinion on the events around the final 10 minutes of the 2021 World Championship.
