It’s no wonder I fell in love with it at an early age. The sheer speed was breathtaking to behold. And back then it really looked fast, too. I know technology has moved on but it appeared much bumpier in those days, like they were constantly on the edge of grip, fighting off an invisible accident that was always searching for a knockout blow.
Then there were the huge jumps, the soaring leaps that defied gravity as they shot between the rocks and trees. Of course there were accidents and seemingly they were never small. Long, convoluted crashes that tumbled and twisted as the speed flung bits of metal hither and thither. Horrible to see but impossible not to watch.
