I know I’m going to take some pain for this one. Given the subject matter it’s inevitable, really. I may never be invited on a Porsche event again. Colleagues probably won’t trust what I say or write about cars on launches from this moment onwards (maybe some of them never did).
Plus there are at least two people I know who’ve bought a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS on my personal recommendation, and I’m not sure what the heck I’m going to say to them next time we meet. Although I’m sure they’ll get over it, given how much they’d make on their cars if they chopped them in tomorrow.
But anyway, here goes my attempt to explain why I’ve changed my mind at least partially about the mighty GT4 RS. And why I think international launch assessments must always be delivered with a degree of qualification, if only to ensure they’re received with an open mind, and to allow us car journos the luxury of getting it wrong every once in a while.
