Our Cars: Polestar 2 farewell

To begin with I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Polestar, or the EV way of life. I’d never run an EV as a daily, and I wasn’t going to be able to charge the car at my home, a flat in the middle of Hove. I was destined to be at the mercy of the public charging network, bless it.

And besides, over the last 35 years of motoring I’ve come to rather enjoy the delights of the internal combustion engine, so the odds were always going to be stacked against my long term enjoyment of the Polestar – even though this one is as entertaining as EVs currently come.

To recap, the car in question is the top banana long-range dual-motor with the optional Performance Pack, plus a couple of other choice upgrades to enhance its appeal – and price. It costs a whopping £68,000 as tested and generates a fulsome 469bhp from its twin-motor powertrain and 82kWh battery. Its energy is deployed through all four wheels and shifts its not inconsiderable 2150kg mass to 62mph from rest in just 4sec dead.
