‘Hunched over the boot of the Jaguar XF in a lay-by somewhere just across the border into Hungary, I checked again. Still no appropriate CD. The sat-nav was supposed to have Europe-wide coverage, but according to the Gaydon world view, Hungary seemingly didn’t count as Europe. I was flying blind to Budapest.’

‘Bought a map in the next petrol station and hoped I could get it through on expenses. I took a couple of wrong turns, but made it eventually. Did the race on the Sunday morning and then drove 700 miles back here for the group test.’
